cherise morris is a Detroit-based mystic, multidisciplinary literary and performance artist, born and raised in rural Virginia. Her writing has appeared or is forthcoming in The Iowa Review, Longreads, Fourth Genre, Winter Tangerine, Black Warrior Review and elsewhere. Her essays have been recognized as notable works of Literary Nonfiction by the Best American Essays Series in both 2018 and 2019. Morris is a 2019 Kresge Literary Arts Fellow in creative nonfiction and was a finalist for the 2019 black warrior review nonficition prize. She is currently at work on her manuscript, Visions of the Evolution: In Search of a New Humanity, and an accompanying series of ritual-performances.
